What is the difference between engine belt and timing belt?

The timing belt of automobile belongs to one of the vehicle belts. The ignition timing of automobile not only carries on and adjusts through the special performance of the timing belt, but also adopts the “chain” timing chain. The function is basically the same as the principle, because of the design or structure of the vehicle, different engines are allocated separately.

Principle:

During the working process of the engine, four processes of intake-compression-explosion-exhaust are continuously completed in the cylinder block. Each step should be coordinated with the piston’s motion state (position). That is, the opening and closing of intake and exhaust valves should be coordinated with the piston’s lifting and lowering. Through the “bridge” function of timing belt, the force is transferred to the corresponding parts driven by the crankshaft.

At present, many models use metal chains instead of timing belts. The reason is that in design, it is guaranteed that the material of timing belts will not cause fracture phenomena, such as valve damage and bending after fracture, piston top failure and so on, resulting in serious consequences. Therefore, the use of timing belt model, refer to the “user manual” on the standard, a certain period of time to replace the timing belt.

Effect:

Simply put, it serves as a link between the preceding and the following. Since the upper part of the timing belt is connected with the camshaft timing wheel in the cylinder head and the bottom part is connected with the engine crankshaft timing wheel, when the rocker arm starts to move through the kinetic energy transmitted by the timing belt, the valve is first raised to allow the mixed gas to be injected into the cylinder. After the last process is completed, the intake valve closes and the exhaust valve is lifted to allow exhaust gas to be discharged. In this way, a more complete timing matching process is achieved by the timing belt (or timing chain).

Replacement:

The “timing belt” of each model has a certain service life, and its replacement standard is recommended to refer to the standard in the “user’s handbook” when on-board. Different brands of cars or different brands of belt replacement time is not necessarily the same, common models in about 8 to 100,000 km replacement is appropriate.

In addition to referring to the user’s manual, the replacement standard should also check whether there are local fracture marks, serious aging, cracking and other phenomena according to the use time. If so, it should be replaced in time! Failure to replace the original belt or the inferior belt in time can lead to serious consequences, such as valve failure, the result will be worthless! Therefore, the replacement of timing belt should choose the original product, it is recommended to go directly to the after-sales service station for repair or replacement.
